Episode 131: Is Disney+ worth the money? What sets it apart from the rest of the streaming services?
Disney+ is the freshly launched streaming service that not only boasts your favorite Disney movies and shows from the past decades, but it also hosts their child companies and original content.
For example, every Marvel movie from the early days of Iron Man, before the MCU became a household name, is available to watch on Disney+
For Star Wars fans, you can watch all of the movies (even the ones you wish didn’t exist) as well as the new Disney+ original, The Mandalorian.
Disney+ is $7 per month in the US at the time of release or $70 for an annual description. Disney has the resources to undercut the other streaming services and is expected to take a large chunk of the streaming service pie.
While Disney+ is already very affordable in comparison to other streaming services, it wouldn’t be the 2 Frugal Dudes without a few discount options.
Kevin took advantage of Verizon’s discount package, which covers the first year of Disney+ then charges the monthly launch rate of $7 after. If you’ve already paid for the first year, you can still sign up to get your second year for free. Check out the details and your eligibility here.
You can also take advantage of the Disney+ Hulu and ESPN bundle to save about $5 per month if you already use these two services. Check out those details here.
You’ll have to do the math on if it’s worth it for you. First of all, if you regularly rent movies for the family when there’s nothing to watch on Netflix, you’ll likely save by having Disney+.
Perhaps the immeasurable benefit of Disney+ is the Nostalgia effect. You can’t put a price tag on the joy of recreating your Saturday morning cartoon lineup. From Rescue Rangers to Gargoyles, there’s something for each generation.
What are you looking forward to the most on Disney+?
